THE MUG RACE 2018

The Rudder Club of Jacksonville is hosting the 65th annual Mug Race, touted as the longest river sailboat race in America.

35 miles along the beautiful St. Johns River has challenged thousands of sailors as they test their skill against the mighty river, fellow competitors and iffy weather conditions. Boats compete for the coveted Mug or to win one of the 50 class trophies.

Start up Line

The Marina in Palatka is still feeling the effects of last year’s hurricane Irma, therefore the starting line has been moved to Crystal Cove Resort, 133 Crystal Cove Dr, Palatka, 2.9 miles north of last year's start.
Sailors can dock, dine, sleep and launch at the same location. Crystal Cove Resort reservations: (386) 325-1055.

  • Boats are eligible so long as their mast is less than 44 feet and can fit under the Shands Bridge.
  • Weather conditions are unpredictable; racers are advised to dress for all weather.
