Joel Shannon Summer Sailing Camp
The Joel Shannon Summer Sailing Camp was founded 18 years ago in memory of Joel Shannon, a local sailor with an interest in seeing young people involved in sailing. We introduce children aged 8 to 15 to basic small boat sailing and teach them self-reliance, respect for the environment, safety and sportsmanship.
All camp instructors are US Sailing certified sailing instructors or certified sailing assistants. Junior instructors and youth camp counselors are provided formal training in the performance of their duties. The camp teaches in the US Sailing format and strives to provide top quality instruction, since the first experiences of a new sailor form memories which last a lifetime.
- Fees are $250 per child for one week of camp, and discounts are available for multiple weeks and multiple children. A deposit of $75.00 is required with the application in order to hold your place in the camp. The check should be made out to The Rudder Club of Jacksonville.
You can download the application and medical form here.
- Each week of camp is limited to 40 campers. Deadline for registration will be the Friday prior to session start date. All forms (medical history, release, participation agreement) must be turned in at the parent orientation.
