Camp Director Shannon Brew
MEET YOUR CAMP DIRECTOR:
Born and raised in Jacksonville, Shannon Brew learned to sail at the Joel Shannon Sailing Camp and practically grew up at the Rudder Club.
Shannon's parents met at the Rudder Club and helped start the Joel Shannon Sailing Camp. Their sailing passion was passed onto their daughter Shannon who helped run the camp as Camp Councilor before becoming a US Sailing Instructor at only sixteen years old.
Shannon was on the sailing team for Florida Gulf Coast University before returning to Jacksonville to work for Epping Forest Yacht and Country Club. At Epping she started as their head instructor and deck hand before becoming Assistant Harbor Master. Age 22, Shannon took the US Coast Guard test to become a licensed captain and now holds a Fifty Ton Masters Captains License. Her qualifications and sailing experience has enabled her to not only direct sailing programs for various yacht clubs but also drive boats for deliveries, ecological studies, and ecological tours. Shannon is looking forward to being involved with the very organization where she started her sailing career all those years ago and inspiring young sailors to pursue their sailing dreams and their sporting career.

All camp instructors are US Sailing certified sailing instructors or certified sailing assistants. Junior instructors and youth camp counselors are provided formal training in the performance of their duties. The camp teaches in the US Sailing format and strives to provide top quality instruction, since the first experiences of a new sailor form memories which last a lifetime.
